Divemaster Training Program Description
TSC is very proud to deliver a unique PADI Divemaster training experience which we believe is unlike any other in the industry. TSC is proud to have more than 20 DMTs (Divemasters-in-training) at any one time year round which makes us one of the biggest DM training facilities in the world.
Our course develops leadership qualities and qualifies students to teach a variety of courses as well as supervise and assist our Instructors in scuba programs.
Our philosophy when training Divemasters is to train to the same teaching level and skill of our own Instructors. If you are looking for a quick push-through DM course then TSC is not for you. We will not push anyone through a quick course. We train and mentor you personally. We do not just allow any candidate to take our course; we will meet with you and get to know you first before accepting you onto our program.
At Toronto Scuba Centre you will participate in an internship where you will learn how a real scuba diving operation functions. On-site, you will have the chance to participate in all levels of scuba courses, servicing scuba equipment, understanding inventory, fitting equipment as well as learning about the wide range of scuba diving products available in the marketplace today. With this new level of understanding you will complete your course with a greater knowledge of the industry.
At Toronto Scuba Centre we strive to train all our Divemaster candidates to the best of their potential. We believe that great Instructors begin their journey as great Divemasters. The core of our training philosophy is getting you to realize your own strengths and personal teaching style, combined with a thorough grounding of the expectations of a Toronto Scuba Centre professional. The development of your own unique pedagogical approach will make you stand out and sought after as a dive professional anywhere in the world.
The length of the course depends on the student’s availability and dedication. It can be completed within one diving season, although most of our DMTs take 2-3 years to complete their internship and gain the maximum amount of experience.
New and experienced divers are always making the choices to expand and develop their diving experiences. As a Divemaster their journey may begin with you.
Pre-requisites
To officially begin the Divemaster program, candidates my be a Rescue Diver (PADI or equivalent), 40 logged dives, CPR and First Aid certification within 24 months (from any organization, including DAN, PADI, Red Cross, etc.), and medical clearance to dive.
However, if you are lacking in any of these areas, we can work with you to meet these requirements. If you have the desire and the work ethic to become a Divemaster, we can get you there.
What You Will Learn
The PADI Divemaster course teaches you to be a leader and take charge of dive activities. Through knowledge development eLearning and in-class sessions, water skills exercises and workshops, and hands-on practical assessment, you develop the skills to organize and direct a variety of scuba diving activities. Topics and practical workshops include:

- Business of diving and your career
- Awareness of the dive environment
- Dive setup and management
- Mapping an open water site

- Conducting a scuba review and skin diver course
- Assisting with Discover Scuba Diving and leading Discover Local Diving programs
Includes
The TSC course fee includes PADI eLearning knowledge development, all instruction, pool access, tank/weight rentals. Divemaster candidates are not required but are recommended to have their own equipment that they can learn and teach with. TSC offers payment plans for those students who wish to invest in their own equipment and have budgetary requirements. TSC makes rental equipment available to DM candidates when equipment is available. Our courses are often busy so this option is not always available, and not ideal as a student of the DM program who wants consistent in-water access. Rental costs also add up over the length of the course, making purchasing a worthwhile investment. PADI professional fees are payable to PADI upon completion of the course.
