PADI Advanced Open Water Scuba Course Description
This course can be taken immediately after completing the Open Water Diver certification. Students do not have to be “advanced” to take it – it’s designed to advance a diver’s ability. The course helps build confidence and expand scuba skills through different Adventure Dives. Students will try out different specialties while gaining experience under the supervision of their Instructor.
(Junior) Open Water Divers who are at least 12 years old are ready to step up and enroll in an Advanced Open Water Diver course. Young divers may only participate in certain Adventures Dives – please check with us on these details. Students who complete the Advanced certification course will be able to dive to a depth of 100ft (30m).
Advanced Cold-Water Combination Course
TSC continues to offer its popular Advanced Cold-Water Combination (ACC) course. This course includes 3 PADI certifications: Advanced Open Water, Enriched Air (Nitrox) and Dry Suit Specialty. Students selecting this option will complete the entire AOW course in a dry suit. The dry suit rental is included in the course fee. The Enriched Air (Nitrox) component is completed through eLearning.
Note: Advanced Open Water course dates in May and October can only be done with the ACC option due to water temperatures.
What You Will Learn
There are two mandatory dives for the Advanced Open Water course – Deep and Underwater Navigation – and a further three dives from the wide range of specialty dives will also be required, for a total of five dives.
During the Deep Adventure Dive, you learn how to plan dives to deal with the physiological effects and challenges of deeper scuba diving. The Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive refines your compass navigation skills and helps you better navigate using kick-cycles, visual landmarks and time.
The other knowledge and skills students will receive during their training will vary based on interest and availability of specialty based on location. If you are doing our Advanced Cold-Water Combination course, one of your dry suit dives will count as an Adventure Dive. Other Adventure Dives we often include in our AOW course are DSMB, Peak Performance Buoyancy and Rescue.
Locations
TSC conducts advanced training and the ACC course as shore dives around the GTA. Weather-permitting, we usually do one day of diving at Humber Bay Park West (Lake Ontario) and one day of diving at Shanty Bay Wharf (Lake Simcoe). Occasionally we schedule the course in Brockville and Tobermory as boat dives (boat fees and accommodations not included).
Includes
The TSC Advanced Open Water course fee includes the academic component which is delivered in text book format, all dive instruction during the course, air fills and weight rental, and the PADI Advanced Open Water digital certification card upon successful completion. Additional fees are detailed below.
Rentals and Additional Fees
For this course, BCD, regulators, dive computer and wetsuits are available to rent if required. Students are required to have their own mask, fins and snorkel.
For locations that involve boat diving, boat fees must be paid for in addition to your course fee. Parking fees may be required at all diving destinations.
