This specialty course teaches students how to use and deploy a delayed surface marker buoy from depth using a diving spool or reel.
The DSMB specialty course teaches students how to use and deploy a delayed surface marker buoy from depth using a diving spool or reel. This is one of the most important skills for independent divers, to mark their location during a safety stop prior to surfacing. It also aids in safety when diving in areas with boat traffic.
Students will learn how to attach their DSMB to their spool and fill the DSMB using a variety of methods, including with their regulator exhaust, using their octo, using their LPI, and more. Students will also practice swimming underwater while towing the DSMB.
As a continuing education course, students must have their own mask, snorkel and fins. Students must also have a DSMB and spool with at least 15 meters of line (which can be purchased from TSC).Tank and weights are included with the course fee. The rental of BCD and regulators are available if needed from the store.
If you are taking the Advanced Open Water course with TSC, inquire about doing your DSMB specialty concurrently. Both courses can usually be completed on the same weekend.
