Course Description

The PADI Rescue Diver course is the pivotal step in expanding your dive knowledge and experience. Building upon what you have already learned, this course expands on what you already know about preventing problems and what to do if they occur. You will find this course both demanding and rewarding as you learn to rise to the challenges and master your new skills whilst making the transition to looking beyond yourself and consider the safety and well-being of others.

Learning Environment (eLearning)

For simplicity TSC conducts the academic component of the rescue course online through the PADI eLearning option. This means students can sign up for the rescue course whenever they want and complete the academic component in their own time. The open water training and testing takes place near Toronto during the summer months starting in June. The open water component is completed over two day and tests students on the skills they learned during the pool training sessions.

Prerequisites

Students are required to have their Advanced Open Water scuba certification. Students will also need to take a first aid course with us or show proof of CPR/first aid certification through a recognized agency within the last 2 years.

If you require CPR/first aid certification, we can arrange that for you. Please visit the EFR course page on our website to sign up.

What You Will Learn

Students will learn how to prevent and manage problems in the water and become more confident with their skills as a diver, knowing that they can help others if needed. During the course, students will learn to become a better buddy by practicing problem solving skills until they become second nature.

The Rescue Diver course prepares students to deal with real dive emergencies, minor and major, using a variety of techniques. Through knowledge development and rescue exercises, students learn what to look for and how to respond. During rescue scenarios, you put into practice your knowledge and skills. Topics include:

  • Self-rescue
  • Recognizing and managing stress in other divers
  • Emergency management and equipment
  • Rescuing panicked divers
  • Rescuing unresponsive divers at and below the surface.

Includes

The TSC rescue course fee includes the PADI academic materials, use of our training pools, tanks and weights, instruction, open water testing and PADI certification card.  BCD and regulators are available for rental if required. The higher rental cost of the equipment for this course reflects the need to have equipment available to students for both pool  and open water sessions. Students are required to have their own mask, fins and snorkel for this course.
