A Wealth of Adventure

A Wealth of Adventure

A Wealth of Adventure

PADI offers a huge variety of courses, so much so that it can be quite daunting to the beginner to know where to start.

Of course, the option for most aspiring divers is the Open Water Diver course.  Sadly, however, that is where many new divers end their learning experience.

Over the next six articles, we, the Toronto Scuba Centre, will highlight another course that we consider essential in your diving development (even more so than the Open Water course): the Advanced course.

So why take the Advanced course?  Well, the Open Water course teaches you the basic mechanics and rudimentary skills of scuba diving.  It is on the Advanced course, however, that new divers begin to truly gain confidence in their new abilities and believe in their diving skills.

At the Toronto Scuba Centre we start your diving experience here in Toronto, Ontario, but then we take your training to a whole new level, both figuratively and literally.

During the Advanced course, we take you beyond the basic skills you learn during your Open Water scuba diving lessons.  We teach you new skills, we show you specialties you may not have thought about at the beginning of your dive career and we offer you more challenging diving.

How do we do this?  Well, we take you to a more challenging diving location (in our case, we go to Brockville on the St. Lawrence River), we take you deeper than you have been and we begin to instill in each diver a little more responsibility for their own diving experience.

One of the best things about the Advanced Course for many students is the fact that there is no class and pool element.  Instead of that, your training for this certification comes immediately before and during the dives!  You have an Advanced manual that you need to review prior to the course, but after that, through dive briefings, some practical training tips and explanations, the rest of the course content is actually discovered in the water.

This is one reason, but there are many other reasons why the Advanced course is a great course.  Over the following few articles we will illustrate five of the main reasons why the Advanced course is one you should seriously consider.
